Hello dear parent,
Have you ever heard a child say, "Mummy I am bored" and immediately you start looking for cartoons, toys, snacks, something, anything to keep them busy?
I understand. I have been there too.
In fact, many of us grew up hearing "An idle mind is the devil's workshop" so we panic when children look "idle."
But let me tell you a secret.
Boredom is not the enemy.
Boredom is a gift.
The truth is that when a child gets bored, their mind starts to stretch itself.
- They start to imagine.
- They start to create.
- They start to find their own fun.
And that moment of "I am bored" can lead to some of the most powerful learning experiences they will ever have.
You see, when everything is constantly entertaining them, they never get a chance to build imagination or problem solving skills.
They always expect the next cartoon, the next snack, the next activity.
But when we allow healthy boredom, we are helping them grow real muscles inside — creativity muscles, patience muscles, innovation muscles.
Here is something simple you can try this week
The next time your child says "I am bored" just smile and say,
"That is okay. I cannot wait to see what you come up with"
And then watch.
It might look like aimless jumping or lying on the floor at first, but give it time.
Something beautiful will bloom.
And remember, we have a wonderful community of parents on WhatsApp where we share more tips, resources, and encouragement every week.
