Hello dear parent,

Every child has the potential to be a leader.

But leadership is not about being bossy or controlling.

It is about having the courage to think differently.

It is about having the confidence to act on those thoughts.

It is about having the character to do what is right, even when it is hard.

In Nigeria, we often focus on obedience and following rules.

But the world needs more than followers.

It needs leaders who can think for themselves.

Leaders who can solve problems.

Leaders who can inspire others.

Here are 3 ways to raise a leader

1. Teach them to think for themselves

Instead of always telling them what to do, ask them what they think.

"What do you think we should do about this problem?"

"What do you think would be the best way to help your friend?"

"What do you think is the right thing to do here?"

When you ask these questions, you are teaching them to trust their own judgment.

2. Give them opportunities to lead

Let them take charge of small things:

  • Planning a family activity
  • Organizing their toys or books
  • Helping a younger sibling with something
  • Making decisions about their own learning

These small opportunities build confidence in their ability to lead.

3. Teach them to serve others

True leadership is about serving others, not controlling them.

Teach them to:

  • Help others without being asked
  • Share what they have
  • Stand up for someone who is being treated unfairly
  • Use their strengths to help others

When they learn to serve, they learn what real leadership looks like.

Remember this

Leaders are not born, they are made.

They are made through practice.

They are made through encouragement.

They are made through opportunities to lead.

Start today. Start small. Start with your child.

Because the world needs more leaders.

And your child has what it takes to be one.
